Website DIY or Pro?

DO IT YOURSELF OR GET A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPER?

What is the first thing you do when you’re curious about something and want to know more about it in this digital age? Search on google for it. Right?

Thanks to the internet, getting and providing the information is just a few clicks away. It helps not only the consumers but also the businesses in advertising their products.

In today's world, websites are required to create bases for anything, be it a small or an up and running business, a blog, or an educational system; everything needs to be marketed. And a perfectly built website does that for you.

Your website is a vital part of your branding. Being your online business card should not only be visually appealing but should reflect a clear purpose. Not only that but one of the main factors is how it indulges our audience.

Now, this raises an important question, whether you should hire a professional to make your website or make one yourself? To answer that question, you need to weigh all the factors side by side, so let us help you with that.

Building Your Website Yourself

Building your own website sounds appealing, doesn't it? To make your website, a lot of people use web builders. A website builder is a tool that helps you create your own website from scratch. But the real question that arises is, is building a website using a website builder a good idea or not?

Advantages:

1) Can Be Made On Short Notice: If you’re short on time and want your website to be up and running as soon as possible, then a web builder is your friend. It’s a quicker and easier way to build a website.

2) Cost-Effective: The first thing that anyone notices about it is that it’s cheaper. This makes it easier for new or small businesses to create a website without spending a lot of money on it. All you need to do is pay for a subscription plan, and there you go, that's it!

3) Easy: A web builder isn’t only cost-effective but very easy to use and manage. Since the website templates are pre-coded, it doesn't leave a lot of room for maintenance. Not only that, but because you are creating a website yourself, you know exactly what topic to target according to your business's needs.

Disadvantages:

1. Poor SEO: Unfortunately, web builders are terrible at Search Engine Optimizations, which results in not being able to optimize your search engines—not being able to edit the code results in the inability to add important SEO tags, making it challenging for people to find you on Google.

2. Time: While trying to save time using a web builder, you should ask yourself, what's your time worth? What could you or be doing with the time you’re investing in building a website that could've been made by a professional? Considering these aspects, can you really decide what option is the best for you to choose from?

3. Not A Professional: Since you aren’t a professional, you won’t really understand what it takes to develop a website that engages your audience and achieve marketing conversions.

4. Generic Designs/Templates: Recently web builders have been in great use. The templates used in many websites built by it have almost become repetitive and are not personalized according to every website's needs due to limited options.

5. You Don’t Own The Website: Regardless of what you think, you won't own the website. Instead, it’ll be owned by the owner of the web builder. You won’t be able to export your website to other platforms. Since the website code isn’t your own, therefore the website won’t work on any other company’s website building software.

All these disadvantages weigh higher on the scale than the advantages a web builder provides.

But worry not! The answer to all these problems is simple, a web developer!

Hiring A Web Developer

Advantages:

     1) Good SEO: Unlike web builders, a web developer is good at SEO, optimizing the essential functions required to make your website as successful as possible and will help achieve a good rank in google search.

      2) Professionals: Due to a lot of experience, web developers know all the necessities and essential factors that need to be added to a website to make sure that the audience can engage, which helps them achieve marketing and visitor conversions.

    3) Personalised Designs: The professionals' designs and templates are custom-made, making the entire website personalized and unique according to your and your company’s needs.

   4) You Own The Website: Along with various other benefits, one huge advantage is that you own the website, which will enable you to transfer it to other platforms when needed, without having to start from scratch.

5) Technical Issues: After creating a website, you can always make changes required with time, be it yourself or with the help of your web developer, who’ll also be available to provide you with any sort of assistance needed for technical issues or to answer your questions.

Disadvantages:

1) Time: Developing a plan together, working on it, and especially if the software house is a busy one, the time taken to make a website can be quite a problem.

2) Cost: The main drawback of hiring a web developer is that it'll be more expensive, which might not be the best idea for small or new businesses.

DIY or A Web Developer?

To answer our previous question, what’s better, making your own website or hiring a website developer? The answer is clear, hiring a website developer!

With the only disadvantage of it being more expensive than a web builder, it carries many advantages that'll boost your business, increase your website's reach, and benefit you in the long run. Using a web builder only provides you with one worthy benefit, cost-effectiveness. But is the cheaper option really, the better option? And will you really be saving money? Because on the one hand, where you are "saving” money, you’re also risking your business.

A website is a pillar upon which your entire business stands, and you’d want the basis of your company/business to be strong, so try to invest more in it since it'll just be a one-time cost. Whereas with a web builder, you'll save money now but lose it in the future, and no one would want that, would they?
